A Curated Weekend of Art & Film

HYDRA ISLAND GREECE

A unique three-day cultural weekend bringing together cultural patrons, visionaries, artists, creators, and industry leaders - gathered to champion the next generation of global creative talent - and to share their passion with the Hydra community.

  • On behalf of ArtCinema, we warmly welcome you to the stunning island of Hydra for our second annual ArtCinema Hydra gathering, taking place from October 3–5, 2025.

If you’ve never been to Hydra, we can assure you it’s a place you’ll never forget. The friendships and connections made here often last a lifetime - and we hope you’ll feel inspired to return and collaborate with us in our collective mission.

Inspired by the ancient Greek tradition of the Euergetes - the “Benefactor” - ArtCinema proudly honors the generosity of our guests who help empower the next generation of global filmmakers and artists.

Patronage can take many forms. As one Greek art patron describes it: supporting creativity might mean collecting, curating, building networks, or simply nurturing relationships that enrich cultural life. At ArtCinema, we welcome all who share this spirit.

This year, we celebrate the first year of our Greek non-profit and the launch of our year-round global cultural programme, alongside a range of philanthropic causes we aim to support annually.

Rooted in the ethos of Euergetes, our mission spans workshops, educational labs, residencies, exchanges, grants and investment matchmaking - all thoughtfully curated through our network of friends and our Patrons Circle. We’d be honored to design a bespoke patronage with you or invite you to explore our Patrons Circle menu, which outlines how you can support this year’s event and our year-round initiatives. Of course, your involvement remains entirely at your discretion.

ArtCinema’s non profit is officially registered non-profit under the Ministry of Culture, dedicated to film, art, education, and philanthropy. We are proudly committed to preserving Hydra’s as a cultural and ecological sanctuary - one that cherishes its people, animals, and natural environment.

    With thanks and appreciation,

    Amanda Palmer

WELCOME TO ARTCINEMA HYDRA 2025

This year’s ArtCinema Hydra will exclusively welcome 100 global creatives and patrons to join our small island community in celebrating and supporting the enduring spirit of independent art and film.

Our annual curated long weekend brings together extraordinary artists, creators, and patrons to champion all forms of art — including film, fine arts, music, fashion, architecture, dance, literature, poetry, as well as wellness and more — while honoring Hydra’s rich legacy as an artists’ sanctuary.

ArtCinema’s three-day event will also serve as a catalyst and fundraising launch for our year-round global program. Through patronage, education, career development, and the financial support offered by our non-profit, we champion creative voices while preserving Hydra’s artistic heritage

OUR TRIBUTE TO HYDRA & GREECE’S FIRST HOLLYWOOD FILM

In 1956, Italian icon Sophia Loren arrived on the shores of Hydra to star in Boy on a Dolphin — Greece’s first Hollywood feature film. This second evening event offers a culturally immersive celebration, with live music, dancing, traditional taverna dining, and two film screenings. Together, we honor the creative collaborations between Greece, Italy, and Hollywood that transported Hydra’s beauty and culture onto the global stage.

WORLD PREMIERE: HYDRA & SOPHIA

AN AI-ENHANCED DOCUMENTARY

We are thrilled to announce the world premiere of Hydra & Sophia: Echoes of a Dolphin — ArtCinema Hydra’s first original production. Commissioned by ArtCinema founder and film producer Amanda Palmer, and brought to life by acclaimed Greek director Antonis Sotiropoulos with producing partner Georgia Andreou, this experimental short documentary was filmed entirely on location in Hydra.

The film revisits the 39 unforgettable days in 1956 when Sophia Loren arrived on the island to star in Boy on a Dolphin. Woven from personal stories, archival treasures, and live music performances from local residents, it stands as a true community creation.

The project employs cutting-edge AI technology to digitally reconstruct Hydra of the 1950s — capturing the sights, sounds, and spirit of the era.
