SUMMER 2026

Support and join our Summer 2026 cultural initiatives in Hydra
and plan to join us for October 1-4, 2026

ArtCinema will launch its prelude events in June 2026, in alignment with the island’s annual art calendar on Hydra, including the Project Slaughterhouse exhibition presented by the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art.

HYDRA SUMMER 2026

Hydra has always drawn artists to its shores. No cars, no noise: just the sea, the light, and the kind of stillness that makes great work possible.

In June 2026, ArtCinema launches its summer residencies in alignment with the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art's annual art week on Hydra — coinciding with Dakis Joannou's Project Slaughterhouse opening on June 23, featuring Jamaican artist Nari Ward.

Patrons are invited to play a defining role — supporting and suggesting internationally acclaimed artists and visionary curators, and helping sustain Hydra's legacy as one of the world's great creative communities.

2026 RESIDENTS

MEET THE ARTISTS

A leading post-conceptual artist known for his playful engagement with consumer culture, identity, and media, Rob Pruitt will present new work created on the island, alongside curating a Hydra Flea Market celebrating local artists and makers. He will also exhibit a selection of his iconic cat sculptures, to help support fundraising for animal welfare initiatives on the island.

ARTCINEMA & POWERHOUSE ARTS

Powerhouse Arts will collaborate with ArtCinema as part of this year’s combined cultural alliance spanning residencies, exhibitions, and international cultural exchange.

The curated exhibitions across the island of Hydra are timed to coincide with the annual program of the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, as well as ArtCinema’s flagship event, ArtCinema Hydra, taking place from October 1–4.

This partnership aims to support Hydra’s legacy as an artists’ island and a global cultural platform - bridging international and Greek artists, collectors, and cultural leaders through dynamic, site-specific programming.

ROB PRUITT'S FLEA MARKET
& BARBER SHOP CONVERSATIONS (PERFORMANCE)

Rob Pruitt will also curate his community minded- participatory art project, first launched in 1999, The Rob Pruitt Flea Market.

It reimagines the traditional flea market as a living artwork, where artists, collaborators, and friends are invited to set up informal stalls and offer whatever they choose—ranging from original artworks and studio remnants to personal objects, found materials, and unconventional collectibles.

Artist Rob Pruitt will also develop a participatory exhibition concept in Hydra along side his main exhibition, where he offers free haircuts to local residents, transforming the barber’s chair into a space for conversation, storytelling, and dialogue about art, creativity, work, and everyday island life.

On Hydra, this concept evolves into something more rooted and place-specific: a living cultural exchange shaped by the island’s unique rhythm, scale, and social fabric. It becomes an organic gathering of local and visiting creators, where artistic exchange is guided by proximity, conversation, and the slow cadence of island life.
