Following the success of its inaugural 2024 programme, ArtCinema Hydra returned in 2025 with an expanded weekend of international cinema, art, music, performance and workshops. Bringing visiting creatives together with Hydra’s local artistic community.

OPENING NIGHT

Double screening of contemporary films Bun Tikki and Dirty Boy featuring live audience Q&A’s with directors and cast members

Opening Night began with a reception at the historic Lazaros Koundouriotis Mansion overlooking Hydra Port, where ArtCinema members and guests gathered for a catered event featuring a classical music performance led by Barry Guy, Maya Homburger and Frank Van Den Brink.

The film programme then moved to Gardenia Open-Air Cinema, opening with contemporary Indian drama Bun Tikki, presented by writer/director Faraz Arif Ansari and leading actor Abhay Deol. The evening concluded with a late-night screening of the dark psychological thriller Dirty Boy, followed by a live Q&A with director Doug Rao and actors Stan Steinbichler and Ava Merson-O’Brien.

BOY ON A DOLPHIN TRIBUTE

The day featured art tours, poetry and community workshops, concluding with our Boy On A Dolphin tribute evening at Mandraki Beach

A centrepiece of the weekend was ArtCinema’s Boy on a Dolphin tribute at Mandraki Beach, transforming the iconic original filming location into a pop-up open-air cinema and taverna.

Local music and dance performances accompanied the world premiere of ArtCinema’s own production, Hydra & Sophia: Echoes of the Dolphin, before the evening concluded with a newly restored 4K presentation of the 1957 classic.

During the day, the wider programme featured exhibitions from Annu Yadav, intimate local art studio tours, artist and patron gatherings, and a special charitable lunch created in collaboration with local ceramicist Vittoria Berardinone.

Stephen Appleby-Barr continued his Hydra Study through works inspired by the island’s cats, while Jacqueline Savidge, Dimitris Fousekis, Maribe Lambert and Andreas Horstmann presented their collaborative YDRA 4 exhibition.

CLOSING NIGHT

Workshops, art tours, music, and performances continued, closing with our Cinema & Souvlaki community event at Kamini Port

Music, performance and creative exchange extended throughout the weekend, with performances by guitarist Kyran Daniel, percussionist Alekos Roupas and sonic performer Julija Castellucci, alongside acting, screenwriting, poetry and creative workshops led by visiting and local guests.

The event closed with our acclaimed Cinema & Souvlaki community event at Kamini Port. Inviting the community to experience local flavours and culture alongside a celebration of international Cinema.

The 2025 programme built on ArtCinema’s first year by expanding beyond screenings into a broader platform for collaboration, experimentation and exchange between Hydra and an international creative community.
