OUR 2025 FILMS

Our cinema screenings took place under the stars at Hydra’s beloved Gardenia Open-Air Cinema, as well as at other cherished locations across the island from Mandraki Bay to Kamini Port.

Bun Tikki is a contemporary Indian coming-of-age story about embracing one’s unique identity and learning to love others for theirs. The film follows Sanu, a child struggling to fit into society’s norms while trying to build a loving relationship with his father. His grandmother - carrying secrets of her own - gently guides him toward accepting his true self. This standout Indian independent film will be introduced by acclaimed Indian actor Abhay Deol and writer/director Faraz Arif Ansari.

Dirty Boy is a haunting psychological thriller that delves into the fractured mind of its protagonist and the depths of a deeply corrupt system. This indie debut marks the first feature from writer-director Doug Rao, and is executive produced by Hydra local Derek Colloredo-Mansfeld. Shot with striking visual flair in Austria’s Ausseerland–Salzkammergut region - famously known as a backdrop for The Sound of Music.

A POET

An aging poet finds purpose mentoring Yurlady, a talented teen, though exposing her to the poetry scene might be unwise. His own poetic pursuits led nowhere, leaving him a stereotypical obscure writer.

ArtCinema presented a fully restored 4K screening of the 1957 classic Boy on a Dolphin in an open-air theatrical setting at the stunning Mandraki Bay - one of the film’s original shooting locations. This special, community-wide celebration will be an immersive seaside evening, evoking the glamorous 1950’s era with fashion, music, and dance, culminating in a sit-down taverna dinner at the beloved Lefterakis Taverna.

We are delighted to announce the world premiere of Hydra & Sophia: Echoes of a Dolphin - ArtCinema Hydra’s first original production. This 30-minute experimental short documentary, filmed entirely on Hydra and uses AI technology to enhance archive. By combining personal stories, archival material, and live performances from Hydra residents, it is a work shaped by the community itself.

Starring Malgosia Bela and Marcin Masecki, Pawel Pawlikowski’s Muse is a short film about the give and take of the creative struggle. Harmony dissolves into a battle of wills between a master pianist and his temperamental muse who has ideas of her own and, desperate to impress, will stop at nothing. Shot at the Old Carpet Factory on Hydra, with cinematography by Stanislaw Cuske and edited by Yannis Sakaridis.

Vassilis Karamitsanis, founder and President of the Animasyros International Animation Festival, will presented a selection of animated films specifically curated for local children, providing an engaging and educational introduction to the art of animation while inspiring the next generation of storytellers and creatives on the island.

The much-loved Cinema & Souvlaki Closing Night returned in 2025, once again blending great cinema, local flavours, and the magic of film at the historic Kamini Port, considered one of the sacred waters of Hydra.

ArtCinema was delighted to welcome back the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Centre and Creative Greece, the nation’s leading creative industry body overseeing Greece’s 40% film tax rebate.

At our Launch Event in 2024, CEO Leonidas Christopoulos joined us and praised ArtCinema for its “passion for the new”, alongside founder Amanda Palmer. This year, they return with fresh insights from the world of film, coupled with an exciting new focus on fashion and music.
