ArtCinema Hydra 2025 will host a series of dynamic creative challenges designed to engage the local community, youth, and international participants, celebrating the full spectrum of artistic expression and cultural heritage.
Together, these challenges create a dynamic platform for participation, collaboration, and artistic exchange, ensuring that the spirit of ArtCinema resonates throughout the year and across the Hydra community. Through these initiatives, the festival cultivates new talent, celebrates cultural heritage, and strengthens connections between local and international artists, educators, and audiences.
BOY ON A DOLPHIN EVENT
1950’s FASHION

The Fashion Competition, inspired by Boy on a Dolphin and the glamour of 1956, will celebrate the intersection of Greek and Italian culture, highlighting how Italian icon Sophia Loren brought Greek aesthetics to the global stage. Participants will explore period fashion, local design, make-up design and creative interpretation, fostering dialogue between history, culture, and contemporary style.

TRADITIONAL GREEK DANCE

A traditional Dance Challenge celebrating movement and storytelling through choreography that was also inspired by Boy on a Dolphin’s choreography. The Greek choreographer for Boy on a Dolphin (1957) was Yianni Fleury, who collaborated with the renowned Dora Stratou Dance Theatre. Fleury contributed to the film's choreography, particularly for the "Panegyri" sequence, which showcased traditional Greek folk dances. This collaboration brought authentic cultural representation to the film, enhancing its portrayal of Greek heritage

MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Musicians will join the Music Challenge, inspired by the legacy of Mikis Theodorakis, fostering creativity, collaboration, and experimentation in composition and performance.

ART
CAT PHOTOGRAPHY

Launching the week of September 12th, this public competition will galvanize the entire Hydra island community to get out all preferred image-capturing devices and track down their favorite (and most photogenic) four-legged friends. The winning photograph and photographer - as voted on by ArtCinema guest artists - will be announced during the ArtCinema closing night event on Sunday, October 5th.
