OPENING NIGHT
ArtCinema’s opening night took place at the historic Gardenia Open-Air Cinema, with special thanks to Lakis Christidis, President of the Hydra Cinema Club, for welcoming the programme into this much-loved cinephile venue.
The evening featured a surprise Greek premiere of the internationally acclaimed La Cocina, presented by lead actor Raúl Briones. Following the screening, Briones joined ArtCinema founder Amanda Palmer for a live Q&A with the audience.
ART, MUSIC & CULTURAL EVENTS
Saturday’s programme began with guests exploring Hydra’s vibrant art scene. Local artist Dimitris Fousekis presented a collaborative work-in-progress exhibition created with young Hydriots and inspired by filmmaker Tim Burton and American artist George Condo.
Fousekis also led intimate studio visits, including the working spaces of Hydra-based artists Tom Powell, Jacqueline Savidge and David Irlam.
At the Old Carpet Factory, founder Stephen Collerado-Mansfeld and sound engineer Vassilis Korres welcomed guests into the recording studio, before the afternoon concluded with a memorable performance by acclaimed Polish pianist Marcin Masecki.
PUBLIC SCREENINGS AT GARDENIA
Later, filmmaker Oliver Bruck, one of ArtCinema’s inaugural alumni, presented a work-in-progress excerpt from Mirella, a project that had received ArtCinema mentorship over the preceding six months.
The evening concluded with screenings of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Warhol Effect, introduced by British producer-director duo Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton.
CLOSING NIGHT AT KAMINI PORT
Closing Night brought Cinema & Souvlaki to historic Kamini port, with Yannis Sakaridis of DISFF and Creative Greece CEO Leonidas Christopoulos joining the programme.
The evening featured two episodes of So Long, Marianne, filmed on Hydra, with producers Richard Tulk-Hart, Nancy Kokalaki and Dionyssis Samiotis thanking the local community for its support.
A memorable highlight came from 93-year-old Kamini resident Stamatis Vlachodimitris, an accordion player, boatman and friend of Leonard Cohen, who shared an impromptu reflection with the audience.
