Hydra Artist Tours
Following from our 2024 collaboration with the local Hydra art community.
We invited guests and friends to join curated guided tours of Hydra’s local artist studios, where participating artists opened their private working spaces for intimate exhibitions, conversations, and insights into their creative practice.
Guests were also encouraged to arrange private studio visits independently throughout their stay.

Mary Gladstone
Mary Gladstone is the living personification of the love for Hydra, with her wonderful weavings and embroidery, or knitwear.m which you can always see in the eyes and in the hearts of almost all foreigners who have lived on our island for years and honor us with their presence and action.

Konstantinos Ladianos
He graduated from the painting department of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is mainly engaged in painting and ceramics, while the human figure is at the centre of his interest.

Honouring Bill Pownall
A former jazz musician, Bill first landed on Hydra from Australia serendipitously in 1963. He took up painting and never left. At 91, he still paints every day and has collectors who include Dave Gilmore, even though memories of Leonard Cohen and Odysseas Elytis

Michael Paoris
Michael Paouris is an internationally acclaimed Greek bouzouki and guitar virtuoso, composer and producer. Widely recognized for his unparalleled speed and technique, legendary jazz guitarist Al Di Meola once described him as the "fastest Bouzouki player on the planet EarthMusical Innovation: Born in Athens in 1987, Paouris is celebrated as the first musician to officially introduce the bouzouki to jazz music. He has seamlessly bridged traditional Greek sounds with classical music and jazz fusion

Rebetiko
The Hydra Rebetiko Gathering (historically known as the Hydra Rebetiko Conference) is an annual cultural festival organized by Ed Emery, the SOAS Rebetiko Band, and the Institute of Rebetology. Held every October on the car-free island of Hydra, Greece, the event brings together international musicians, scholars, and fans to celebrate rebetiko—the soulful "Greek blues".

Robert McCabe Book Launch
Born in Chicago in 1934, McCabe grew up in the New York area and first fell in love with Greece during a life-changing student trip in 1954. His decades-long dedication to preserving Greek culture earned him honorary Greek citizenship in 2020.
